L.A. Gas Prices Up for Third Week

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles area rose for the third consecutive week, climbing 8.3 cents to $2.662 for the week ended March 20. The week before, prices gained 6.7 cents to $2.579.


L.A. prices are 30.9 cents higher than they were a year ago, according to the federal Energy Information Administration. Los Angeles had the highest price per gallon of the cities surveyed for the seventh week.


Statewide, prices jumped 10.3 cents to $2.635 from $2.532 one week earlier, leaving them 32.3 cents higher than year-ago rates. California was the most expensive state out of those surveyed for the sixth week.


Massachusetts had the lowest-priced gas of the states surveyed, at $2.398 per gallon, and the city with the cheapest gas was Boston, even though it soared 15.3 cents to $2.394 per gallon.
