After years of life in a variety of places Lebanon, Canada, Virginia Hana Hoffmann says she’s settling down in Southern California with a job as senior manager in the assurance practice for Grant Thornton LLP.

She was attracted by the L.A. location as much as by the company.

“We always wanted to live in Southern California because of the culture and the weather. Coming from Canada, most people would understand that,” she said.

Just don’t ask her about the traffic a frustration arising from all the time she spends on the road.

“I have been here for two months but every time I want to go out I have to go to MapQuest to print out directions. I’m not at the office too often. I’m usually out meeting with clients or between clients,” she said.

“I like everything about L.A. except the traffic. But I don’t want to talk about that or I’ll get frustrated again.”

Most of her day is dedicated to resolving issues that arise in the auditing process; she also researches auditing practices. Grant Thornton LLP is the U.S. division of the international accounting and management consulting firm.

Hoffmann’s parents are Canadian, but she was born and raised in Lebanon. She received degrees in accounting and marketing from Lebanese University in Beirut.

She moved to Canada in her 20s, and met her husband, a native of Montreal. They moved to the United States for job opportunities, and stayed for a time in Virginia, where Hoffmann worked for several years as an audit manager for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Hoffmann lives with her husband in Santa Clarita. “We really want to explore California, go hiking, and travel to San Diego, San Francisco, and Santa Barbara.” She also enjoys horseback riding.
