Gas Prices Down Again for L.A.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles Area was $3.197 for the week ended August 21, down five cents from the previous week, according to the Energy Information Administration and. The national average is $2.92, down 7.6 cents.


L.A. prices are 43 cents higher than they were a year ago. Statewide, the average price was $3.162, down 4.9 cents from the previous week and up 41 cents from a year ago.


Nationwide, Los Angeles had the highest average price of gas in the 10 major cities polled. Chicago had the second-most expensive gas at $3.15 a gallon with San Francisco close behind at $3.12 a gallon. Cleveland had the cheapest gas at $2.76 per gallon. California was the most expensive state and Ohio kept the cheapest average, at $2.75 a gallon — a title the state of Texas held for several months.
