For the fourth consecutive week, gasoline prices in most areas moved lower despite Alaska pipeline problems and continued war in the Middle East, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles Long Beach area is $3.234, which is nine-tenths of a cent lower than last week, six cents lower than last month and 57 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.270, 1.4 cents below last week’s price, three cents below last month and 55 cents above last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.392, up seven-tenths of a cent from last week, three cents below last month and 63 cents higher than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average price is $3.255, down 1.6 cents from last week, five cents below last month and 60 cents higher than last year.

“Southern California prices have been stable for nearly a month despite Alaska pipeline problems and an on-going Middle East war,” said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. “It’s too early to know if the latest threat involving air travel will affect fuel prices. In the past, terrorist threats depressed prices on speculation that the public would reduce traveling.”
