Famed architect Frank Gehry, known for the serpentine outer skins of buildings such as the Disney Concert Hall, has designed two skyscrapers as part of a huge downtown redevelopment project meant to bring night life to the area.

The buildings, to stand 47 and 24 stories tall, are cornerstones of the $1.8 billion Grand Avenue revitalization effort in the Civic Center area. Few people venture into the district after dark, even though it's within walking distance of the Disney hall, Music Center and Museum of Contemporary Art.
