– Guess Inc.

said its March same-store sales rose 8.1 percent. Total retail sales for the month ended April 1 jumped 14 percent to $56.8 million from $49.8 million a year earlier. First-quarter retail sales climbed 21.6 percent to $140.2 million and comparable store sales increased 13.9 percent. L.A.-based Guess owns and operates 313 apparel stores in the United States and Canada.



– CKE Restaurants Inc.

reported fourth-quarter net income of $154.3 million ($2.14 per share), compared with $7.1 million (12 cents) for the same period a year earlier. Revenue for the Carpinteria-based operator of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurants fell 3.7 percent to $348.5 million from $361.9 million in the year-prior period.


Fourth-quarter results included a $139 million ($1.92 per share) income tax benefit related to a substantial reduction of the company’s deferred tax asset valuation allowance.



– Shoe Pavilion Inc.

said its comparable store sales fell 1.1 percent for the first-quarter ended April 1, while its net sales for the period increased 17 percent to $27.3 million from $23.3 million a year earlier. During the quarter, the Sherman Oaks-based discount shoe retailer opened five new stores and closed two stores when their leases expired.
