Stocks finished Monday’s session mixed as investors put aside their enthusiasm over acquisitions and evidence of a moderating economy to cash in profits from an early advance.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 35.62, or 0.3 percent, to 11,144.94. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index gained 2.98, or 0.2 percent, to 1,297.81. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 3.05, or 0.1 percent, to 2,336.74.

Local movers were led by Mossimo Inc., which gained 39.7 percent to $7.64, Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., which rose 2.2 percent to $95.94, and Computer Sciences Corp., which climbed 3.1 percent to $57.29. On the down side, Public Storage Inc. fell 2.9 percent to $78.91, Macerich Co. lost 2.8 percent to $71.85 and Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. slipped 2.2 percent to $93.28.
