DirecTV Group Inc. said Thursday it will offer 72 music and talk-radio channels to its customers under an agreement struck with Washington, D.C.-based XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc.

The El Segundo-based satellite television service provider, which has more than 14.6 million customers nationwide, said the XM Satellite channels will be available to DirecTV customers on Nov. 15. The deal nearly doubles DirecTV’s current audio programming lineup without any additional costs for subscribers, the company said.

The new offerings will include music channels, children’s programming, XM’s Major League Baseball “Home Plate” talk radio channel and its High Voltage channel, featuring talk radio stars Opie and Anthony.

Customers subscribing to the “DirecTV Total Choice” programming package will have access to 50 XM Satellite Radio music channels; subscribers to the “DirecTV Total Choice Plus” package and above will have access to more than 65 music and talk channels.

DirecTV shares rose 0.3 percent to close at $14.95 on Thursday.
