Small Business Optimism Steady

U.S. small businesses continued to display optimism about the economy in August, increasing capital spending and hiring more employees, a survey released on Tuesday showed.


The National Federation of Independent Business said its small business optimism index was virtually unchanged last month, down 0.2 points to 100.9, from 101.1 in July. Fading profits and sales, accompanied by increases in employee compensation, caused the index’s small dip, the group said.
