– OSI Systems Inc.

said its subsidiary Rapiscan Systems received a $6.6 million order from an undisclosed federal government agency to provide several of its Rapiscan Gamma Radiographic Detection Systems. The systems are used to screen vehicles and cargo containers for explosives at border crossings. The company said it expects to deliver the systems by the third quarter of 2006.


The Hawthorne-based security and medical monitoring company also announced that its anesthesia division, Blease Medical, was given Food and Drug Administration marketing clearance for one of its anesthesia systems. The agency cleared Blease’s Sirius 3000 anesthesia system and 8700 ventilator for the U.S. market, where annual sales of anesthesia systems and ventilators are approximately $429 million, the company said in a statement. Blease Medical will begin working toward a U.S. product launch and said it will market the system through OSI’s Spacelabs Medical unit.



– Kayne Anderson MLP Investment Co.

announced the pricing of a secondary public offering of common stock. The L.A.-based management investment company agreed to sell a total of 3 million shares at $27 per share, with an additional 440,888 shares used for over-allotments. Citigroup Global Markets Inc. and UBS Securities LLC are acting as joint book-running managers for the transaction.



– Orphalese Global Strategies Inc.

announced plans to build The Orphalese, what the Culver City-based company is calling “the world’s largest ultra-luxe residential ocean liner.” The cruise ship for the affluent market is designed with 200 private permanent residences, as well as 265 suites for cruise passengers. The two- to four-bedroom residences range from 1,000 square feet to 3,900 square feet, and from $1.8 million to over $10 million. A monthly assessment will give owners access to all of the ship’s tourist cruise facilities, including food, utilities and urgent medical care.


The ship, which was designed by Finland-based Aker Finnyards, will be completed in 2008. The Orphalese will spend an average of 200 days in various ports around the world.
