MPAA, BitTorrent Sign Deal

The Motion Picture Association of America and Bram Cohen, creator of software used to download movies illegally over the Internet, reached an agreement to have Cohen remove links to pirated versions of copyrighted movies from his Web site, BitTorrent.com.


The agreement, which will stop people from using Cohen’s search engine to download films, involves connections to content owned by the seven studios that are members of the MPAA.


The deal will not prevent all illegal copies from being swapped using the BitTorrent technology. Millions of people already have downloaded BitTorrent software and don’t need to use the site.
