For a fraction of the price of a real security camera system, this is promoted as a simple and cost-effective solution to deter thieves both at home or work. PLASTIC SHIPPING PALLET

Manufacturer:

Rehrig Pacific Co. (Los Angeles)

Description:

Lightweight, inexpensive shipping pallet

Price:

$19 each with minimum 68-unit order

New worldwide shipping regulations that went into effect in September require wooden pallets to be heat-treated or fumigated. In response, Rehrig Pacific has developed a pallet made of recycled plastic. The pallet not only gets around the new fumigation requirement but at 17 pounds weighs about a third of a traditional wooden pallet while registering a load rating of 2,500 pounds. The company boasts that exporters can ship out an extra 800 pounds of product per container using its pallets. Wooden pallets are still dominant in the export business, with an estimated 80 million sold for use last year. The plastic pallets are available for sale on the company’s Web site, rehrigpacific.com.
