Boeing Machinists Go on Strike

About 1,500 workers at Boeing Co.’s rocket facilities went on strike early on Wednesday after failing to resolve disputes over retiree health insurance, Boeing and the union representing the workers said.


The walkout was the latest sign of labor unrest at Boeing, whose commercial jet production was halted by a month-long strike in September, and which is now negotiating with its engineers over a contract that expires later this year.


The rocket contract covers about 900 workers in Torrance, Huntington Beach and Vandenberg and Edwards Air Force Bases in California; about 300 workers at Cape Canaveral in Florida; and about 300 workers in Huntsville and Decatur, Ala.
