News Corp. on Thursday named Peter Liguori as president of entertainment at Fox Broadcasting, filling the position recently held by Gail Berman, who is said to be in talks to take the top spot at Paramount Pictures.

Liguori, who has been chief executive of News Corp.’s FX Networks since 1998, was widely viewed as a top internal candidate.

He will be responsible for all Fox program development and scheduling, as well as marketing, business affairs and promotions, News Corp. said in a press release.

Liguori has been credited with helping FX rise from a budding network to one of the top five basic cable networks with programs like “Nip/Tuck” and “The Shield,” and with the FX Original Movies franchise.

Prior to joining Fox, Liguori was a vice president at HBO. He also held several positions in HBO’s Home Video division.
