Jackson Returns as Lakers’ Coach

Phil Jackson will return as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, whom he guided to four Finals appearances in five seasons, the Associated Press reported. He will be reintroduced as coach of the team this afternoon at a 2 p.m. news conference at Staples Center.

Jackson agreed to a three-year contract. Terms were not announced, but it’s believed he’ll be earning around $10 million per year, the Associated Press reported.

Jackson takes over a team that went 34-48 last season, finished behind the Clippers in the standings and struggled to fill seats at home games. He replaces Frank Hamblen, who went 10-29 after taking over last February in the wake of Rudy Tomjanovich’s abrupt resignation.

Jackson was let go by owner Jerry Buss last June 18.
