Los Angeles-area gas prices continued inching away from the record levels of two months ago, dipping nearly 4 cents a gallon last week, according to the federal Energy Information Administration. They are now around 3 cents per gallon higher than they were one year ago.

The average gallon of self-serve regular in the Los Angeles area was $2.377 for the week ended June 6, down from $2.414 the previous week. L.A. gas prices are about 22 cents lower than they were on April 14, when gas prices finally started falling.

Statewide gas prices dipped nearly 3 cents per gallon in the past week averaging $2.360 per gallon for the week ended June 6, but they are still about 4 cents higher than one year ago.

California was still the most expensive state in which to buy a gallon of gas, and San Francisco held onto the title of being the most expensive city, out-pricing Los Angeles for the tenth straight week, with an average of $2.389 per gallon.

Minnesota and Ohio tied as the lowest-priced states of the areas surveyed at $2.006 per gallon, and the city with cheapest gas was Houston at $1.974 per gallon.
