With the holiday weekend here, gasoline prices rose for the second week in a row after a nine-week decline in the L.A. and Southern California region, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area rose 6.4 cents to $2.465 on Friday from $2.401 one week ago. The price was $2.416 per gallon one month ago and $2.261 one year prior.

“Crude oil futures prices have settled down slightly, but still are trading close to $60 a barrel because of concerns about international events such as the Iranian election,” said Auto Club spokeswoman Carol Thorp. “Until crude oil prices settle down for a sustained period, we can expect gas prices to continue rising.”

The Orange County area had the lowest average price in Southern California with $2.452, replacing Riverside-San Bernardino which has had the cheapest gas for the past two weeks. San Diego saw the largest increase in gas prices this week, moving from $2.423 to $2.508, an 8.5 cent increase. Prices in the Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area remained the highest at $2.555.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline as of 12:01 a.m. July 1.
