Light, sweet crude for March delivery dropped 60 cents to $48.24 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. February heating oil fell by almost 2 cents to $1.3773 a gallon.

In London, Brent for March delivery fell 68 cents to $45.76 on the International Petroleum Exchange.
