The dollar started the week in Europe with minor gains on the euro, which was at $1.3071 in late trading after hitting $1.3127 during the day.

Since the dollar hit an all-time low at the end of December against the euro, on concerns over the U.S. trade and budget deficits, it has been battling its way back. The euro traded at $1.3117 late Friday.

The dollar was also up slightly against the Japanese yen, buying 101.93 yen, up from the five-year low, or 101.81 yen, on Friday
