Group Plans to Push for Schwarzenegger Agenda, L.A. Times Says

Business and taxpayer groups with close ties to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger have banded together to raise tens of millions of dollars to support his initiatives, the L.A. Times reported.

The group, Citizens to Save California, could help the Republican governor push his political agenda and ensure the passage of his reforms, as a rule change limits his ability to raise unlimited donations, the Times reported.

Last year, the state’s Fair Political Practices Committee limited contributions to committees supporting ballot initiatives to $22,300. Before the change, Schwarzenegger’s California Recovery Team collected donations of more than $100,000 that successfully supported his balanced budget initiative and $15 billion bond issue.

The governor has said that if the spending controls, legislative redistricting and pension reform proposals are not enacted by the legislature he would call a special election and place the issues directly before the voters.
