The Los Angeles Times will close its Chatsworth newspaper-printing facility, and will consolidate production at its three other plants in Irwindale, Costa Mesa and Los Angeles, the Tribune Co.-owned newspaper announced Monday.

The closure which comes on the heels of recent newsroom layoffs will result in 110 additional job cuts, though the company will offer buy-outs to the affected employees, according to the announcement

“The three more modern plants are fully capable of handling the current and future needs of Times readers and advertisers,” Mark Kurtich, the Times’ senior vice president of operations, said in a statement.

The paper will transition production from the Chatsworth plant to the Los Angeles and Costa Mesa facilities in the first quarter of 2006.

After the move, the company will sell the 250,000 square-foot plant, which sits on 26-acres in the San Fernando Valley.

The Times is one of several Tribune properties to announce recent layoffs, including the company’s namesake paper in Chicago and Newsday in New York.
