L.A. gasoline prices fell for the ninth straight week, and the downward price trend is likely to continue through the end of the holiday season, said the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area slipped 8.2 cents to $2.422 on Friday from $2.504 one week ago. The price was $2.767 per gallon one month ago and $2.252 one year prior. Prices haven’t hit a new record high since Sept. 6.

“Conditions appear right for continued declines at the gas pump through the holiday season,” Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp said. “Southern California motorists have experienced nine weeks of lower prices and they should continue falling through December.”

The Orange County area had the lowest average price in Southern California, dropping 7.1 cents to $2.391. The Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area had the highest gas price, dipping 5.5 cents to $2.556.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline each Friday.
