Oil Prices Creep Higher

Crude oil prices crept higher Thursday on the heels of a rally in gasoline futures, though worries eased somewhat about the path of a storm expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico.


Light sweet crude for October delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 28 cents to $67.60 a barrel in afternoon trade after reaching an intraday peak of $68. The contract had settled at a Nymex record $67.32 a barrel on Wednesday. On an inflation-adjusted basis, oil prices would need to hit about $90 a barrel to match the highs of 25 years ago.
