Gas Prices Continue Upward Spiral

The average gallon of self-serve regular for the week ended Aug. 8 in the Los Angeles was $2.622, up from $2.575 the previous week, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.


The nearly 5-cent uptick brings them 53 cents higher than they were a year ago.


Statewide, prices rose to $2.601 from $2.549 over the week, about 50 cents higher than year-ago rates. San Francisco was the most expensive major city in the U.S. for gas prices, at $2.538, while California was the most expensive state.
