Update: Dodgers’ Home Opener a Sellout

Tuesday’s home opener at Dodger Stadium was the team’s fastest sellout since the team moved to Chavez Ravine in 1962 and it had an ending to match, as the Dodger’s scored four runs in the ninth inning to pull out a win.

The Dodgers, now at 5-2, are in sole possession of first place in the National League West after beating Tuesday’s opponent, the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers were surprise winners of the division last year.

After an off-season renovation, single-game seats cost anywhere from $6 in the Pavilion section to $375 for Dugout Club seats. The 56,000-seat stadium sold out 45 minutes after single-game seats went on sale March 4.

“The fan interest in the team has been tremendous,” said John Olguin, spokesman for the Dodgers. “Playing off last year’s division title has increased the excitement. There is a little more buzz in the air.”

The game ended when Milton Bradley hit a sharp single to left field, scoring Cesar Izturis and J.D. Drew. Giants left fielder Jason Ellison let the ball skip by him on an error, which also scored Jeff Kent for the game winner.
