L.A. Gas Prices Continue Climbing

Double digit increases in week-to-week gasoline prices have resulted in new record highs throughout the state, with the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Los Angeles up 14 cents per gallon in the week ended April 8, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

In its Weekend Gas Watch, the Auto Club noted that pump prices as of Friday were 30 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and 35 cents higher than one year earlier.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline was $2.575 per gallon in Los Angeles on April 8, compared with $2.435 one week ago and $2.273 one month ago.

“Even though California and the nation have ample supplies of oil and gasoline to meet demand, the main factor affecting gas prices is the high cost of crude,” said Auto Club spokeswoman Carol Thorp. “Motorists can expect pump prices to continue rising for at least the next couple of weeks.”

The lowest average price in Southern California was in Orange County, where regular was selling for $2.527. The Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area reported the highest average local price, at $2.626.
