L.A. Mayor James Hahn is lagging significantly behind challenger Antonio Villaraigosa in the mayoral runoff fundraising derby.

According to figures released by the Hahn campaign just moments before Thursday’s filing deadline, Hahn raised $408,000 in the first four weeks of the mayoral runoff, excluding $6,000 in city matching funds. That’s more than one-third less than the $653,000 Villaraigosa’s campaign reported on Wednesday.

Hahn also spent less than Villaraigosa during the first four weeks of the runoff, reporting $39,000 in expenditures to Villaraigosa’s $83,000. That left Hahn with only $378,000 cash on hand, while Villaraigosa had $575,000.

In their first matchup four years ago, Hahn also trailed Villaraigosa in fundraising during the general election, ultimately raising $2 million to Villaraigosa’s $2.9 million. Hahn won that contest by seven percentage points.

In the only other city runoff campaign, former cable television executive Bill Rosendahl took the fundraising lead over his opponent, Westside community activist Flora Gil Krisiloff for the open 11th District council seat. Rosendahl reported raising $75,000 to Krisiloff’s $56,000.
