Gas prices jumped nearly 8 cents a gallon last week in Los Angeles, the third straight month they have been on the rise, according to data from the federal Energy Information Administration.

The average gallon of self-serve regular in the Los Angeles area was $2.475 for the week ended April 4, up from $2.397 the previous week. L.A. gas prices are almost 30 cents higher per gallon than they were just one year ago.

State gas prices climbed even more, almost 9 cents per gallon. The California statewide average was $ 2.464 per gallon for the week ended April 4, up from $2.376 in the prior week, and nearly 34 cents higher than one year earlier.

While California remained the most expensive state in which to buy a gallon of gas, Los Angeles was no longer the most expensive city after being out-priced by San Francisco. The northern California city rang in at $2.495 per gallon. And for the first time in months, L.A. had the lowest price gain from a year ago of the 10 cities surveyed. Cleveland had the highest price gain with a price per gallon nearly 47 cents higher than one year prior.
