99 Cents Only Stores Avoids Strike With Unionized Drivers

The shelves at 99 Cents Only Stores Inc. will be fully stocked throughout the Christmas season now that the discount chain reached an agreement with 65 unionized drivers to avoid a strike.

The drivers, belonging to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 630, won raises of about 10 percent over a new five-year agreement, as well as a promise by the chain to use only Teamsters drivers.

Teamsters organizers said they will now target workers at four 99 Cents Only warehouses as well as the stores clerks and stockers in an organizing campaign jointly run by the United Food and Commercial Workers.
