LABJ Forum—A New Hollywood Hangout?

0

On Nov. 9 the much-anticipated Hollywood & Highland development will be open to the public. Many Angelenos have taken a long look at the work in progress, and curiosity is likely to keep building up in the days leading up to the opening. So the Business Journal asks:

Are you going to go check out Hollywood & Highland when it opens?

Diem Van Groth Chief Executive ZGyde Inc.

Absolutely. I’m especially interested in this project because it’s being designed to bring Hollywood back to its former grandeur. I’m going to go with a couple of business partners that are coming into town for vacation, but it’s going to be more pleasure than business. It’s nice to see Los Angeles being developed inward instead of expanding.

Yes I definitely am. I’ve driven past it and it looks very interesting. One of my donors is opening up Mel’s Drive-In across the street so I was planning on going over there to see both of them some time in the next few weeks.

Ray Doustdar Vice President of Licensing & Business Development The Stronghold Group

Every chance I get. I’m very interested to see what they’ve built there. I understand the facility will be equipped for professional entertaining, as well as a wonderful place to visit on the weekends. I’ll probably go the Saturday after it opens, walk around and catch a movie.

Matt Coffin Chief Executive LowerMyBills.com

Definitely. I actually live nearby so I drive by it everyday. I’m amazed by how fast it has gone up. I lived in New York for about six years and projects would just take forever. It’s also a pretty impressive building in terms of the size. Most of the places on Hollywood Boulevard are kind of ratty little stores. Consequently, the only people they attract are tourists. I think with this new project you might start to see non-tourists using the area more.

Sure, I actually do a lot of bike commuting and hit the Red Line a lot. I know that stops there, so absolutely. I’ve actually spent more time down there the last few weeks than all of last year. I’m looking forward to the new complex and what can be discovered (there).

Laura Moix Director of Public Relations E! Networks

I am. Parking is an issue, so I’m curious to see if now it will become more of a one-stop shop. Maybe you’ll be able to park, shop, and see a movie without getting in your car. I’ve never had a reason to go down there except at night, to see shows at the Knitting Factory or a movie. Maybe now it will become more of a day place.
