Claim to Fame: Asset manager for some of the largest properties on the West Coast

To Marianne Lowenthal, real estate development is a creative endeavor, with every space an empty canvas.

“I love making interesting uses of space,” said Lowenthal, who recently joined Regent as a partner after running her own real estate consulting firm for two years. “Creating projects from the ground up, from the design and architecture to the final product, is what I do.”

Lowenthal closed her small firm, Lowenthal & Co., and joined Regent after she realized how tough it is for independents to find capital for big projects. “I wanted to do real estate development directly and in order to do that, you have to have access to capital,” Lowenthal said. “That is why I chose Regent, because I couldn’t get that capital on my own.”

In her new role, Lowenthal is project manager for the $100 million Burbank Plaza project, a 500,000-square-foot, mixed-use building at Olive Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard that will house an eight-story office tower and a 300-room hotel, along with retail uses.

“It is an extremely challenging project because it calls for combining hotel, office and retail space in a tight downtown site,” said Jeff Dinkin, managing partner at Regent. “It takes a great deal of creativity to do that, and Marianne has that.”

Lowenthal also worked 12 years for the Prudential Realty Group in its development and asset management divisions, where she was responsible for all projects on the West Coast, consisting of over 6 million square feet of commercial property with a combined value of more than $1.5 billion. Some of those properties included the Embarcadero in San Francisco and the Century Plaza Towers in Century City.
