Daniel Petrocelli

Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp

Specialty: Civil litigation

Law School: Southwestern University, 1980

Probably best known for heading the team of lawyers that won the O.J. Simpson wrongful death civil lawsuit, Petrocelli represents a large variety of clients and has tried a diverse group of cases.

He says his passion is for litigating "hard-fought, complex cases where the stakes are big."

His client base is heavily concentrated in the entertainment industry at the moment, including music-industry legends Barry Gordy and Irving Azoff, and movie director Quentin Tarantino, among others. He recently successfully represented Lisa Marie Presley in her libel case against the National Enquirer. And he's currently defending Fox Kids, which was sued by Viacom in a dispute over Fox Kids hiring away a Viacom executive.

Good luck trying to get Petrocelli to say much about his clients or their cases, though. "The people I represent want their privacy; they don't want their matters discussed," he snips.

Despite his current caseload, Petrocelli says he represents clients from a broad array of industries pharmaceuticals, apparel and construction. Petrocelli says he enjoys the diversity that goes along with each case.

With a practice that spans the United States, Petrocelli has won numerous professional awards. He was selected as one of the lawyers of the year for 1997 by California Lawyer magazine, and was named trial lawyer of the year by several bar associations.

Petrocelli graduated from UCLA in 1976, then went on to Southwestern University Law School, graduating from there in 1980. Since then, he has been with Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp.
