Scott Farber has been appointed head of Grant Thornton LLP's Southern California assurance practice in Los Angeles and director of the Western region international business center. Farber previously was stationed in Hong Kong, overseeing services to international clients throughout the Asia Pacific. In addition, Kevin Morrow has been named manager in Grant Thornton LLP's Los Angeles-based international management consulting practice. Morrow previously worked on pan-European consulting projects from Grant Thornton's office in Belgium.
Tim Spengler has been named senior vice president and general manager of national television at Los Angeles-based Western International Media. Previously, Spengler served as the division's deputy director.
Banking & Finance
John Bakker has been appointed vice president and manager of Sanwa Bank California's Long Beach commercial banking center. He will oversee the institution's commercial banking operations for the combined Long Beach/South Bay region of Los Angeles County. Prior to joining Sanwa, Bakker was a commercial banking executive with Union Bank of California.
Gerald Bruver has joined Santa Monica-based First Federal Bank of California as senior vice president of business banking. Bruver will be responsible for developing and maintaining commercial banking relationships on the Westside. He previously was senior vice president and executive commercial banking officer at Santa Monica Bank.
David T. Goberville, a specialist in mergers, acquisitions and the financing of middle-market companies, has joined Sutro & Co. as vice president in the firm's Los Angeles investment banking group. He was formerly with Barrington Associates.
Stuart S. Greenberg has joined RH Investment Corp.'s management team. Greenberg, who will be based in the Century City office, will oversee the brokerage's expansion. Previously, Greenberg was president of Baraban Securities.
Kraig T. Kitchin has been named president and chief operating officer of Sherman Oaks-based Premiere Radio Networks Inc. He will oversee all aspects of company operations. Previously, he was chief operating officer.
Joe Rakauskas has been named chief operating officer of Malibu-based Higher Octave Music. He will run the day-to-day operations of the company, including finance, legal and business affairs, sales and marketing, and direct-to-customer operations. Rakauskas formerly was chief financial officer of Mercury Records.
Judy Ranan has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Citadel Entertainment division of Alliance Communications Corp. Ranan, who will be based in Los Angeles, will be responsible for overseeing Citadel's development and production of television movies for network and cable. Ranan previously served as senior vice president of development and production at Citadel.
Robert Wozniak has been promoted to director of production, administration and finance for Los Angeles-based Jim Henson Co. He will establish and maintain standard policies and procedures for various productions, as well as overseeing day-to-day finance and administration. Previously he was manager of production administration and finance.
Valery Gilbert has been named president of Santa Monica-based WebChoice Inc. She will be guiding the company's launch this fall. Gilbert previously was senior vice president.
Tom Govreau has been appointed chief financial officer with Westlake Village-based Sandpiper Networks Inc. He previously was a partner with Ernst & Young. Also, Joe Eskew has been appointed vice president of sales. He previously was vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at Air Media Inc. In addition, Gerald Kobelski has been appointed vice president of network services. Prior to joining Sandpiper, he served as vice president for GTE Internetworking.
Edward L. Weatherby has been appointed vice president of worldwide sales at Torrance-based Helisys. He will be in charge of overseeing sales of the company's laminated object manufacturing systems, used in rapid phototyping. Previously, he has held senior-level positions at Anacomp, Integrated Management Solutions and Giga Trend.
E. Joy Heckendorf has been chosen to lead marketing activities for Transamerica Life Cos.' Los Angeles-based insurance products division. Most recently, Heckendorf was senior vice president for Transamerica's mutual fund company.
Carole Christianson has been promoted to vice president of customer development at the Los Angeles office of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. Christianson previously was group director of customer development.
Ernest J. Turocy has joined South El Monte-based Bergandi Machinery Co. Inc. as president and chief operating officer. He previously directed his own management consulting firm, Turocy & Associates.
Brad Gerber has been named publisher of Petersen Co.'s Hot Rod magazine. Based in the company's Los Angeles headquarters, Gerber's responsibilities include overseeing all advertising sales and marketing related to the magazine. He most recently held the position of regional sales manager for Petersen's automotive performance group.
Ralph M. Galustian has been appointed president and CEO of Alpha Therapeutic Corp., Yoshitomi Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.'s L.A.-based subsidiary. Galustian previously served as chairman and CEO of BKP Biologicals.
Greg Cole has been named director of capital markets for Cohen Financial's Los Angeles office. In this role, he will originate both debt and equity investments in income properties. Prior to his appointment at Cohen Financial, Cole served as vice president and regional manager of GMAC Commercial Mortgage.
David J. Gilbert has joined Chase Capital Partners as group head of CCP Real Estate. Previously, he was senior investment officer for real estate for the California Public Employees Retirement System.
Alexandra S. Glickman has been named chair of the newly formed global real estate practice of J & H; Marsh & McLennan. Based in Los Angeles, Glickman will be responsible for leading the worldwide development and management of clients, services and programs for the real estate industry. In addition, Scott A. Allan has joined the global real estate practice. He will provide insurance and risk management consulting for local and national clients. He formerly was the vice president of risk management for Lowe Enterprises.
