Cloud 9 Esports Inc. is a family affair – Etienne, who was a manager for professional gamers, founded the company with his wife Pauline in 2012. Despite the company’s humble mom-and-pop beginnings, Cloud 9 became one of the most prolific esports hubs in the world. The company raised $50 million in series B funding in 2018 and nabbed a partnership with cryptocurrency platform Blockchain.com, in which Cloud 9 players would sport a Blockchain.com logo on their jerseys and fans could see cryptocurrency education littered throughout streams. Under Etienne and his wife, Cloud 9 became one of the first esports organizations in the world to provide its players with salaries and health benefits.
