Mayer is the founder and co-chief executive of Candle Media, a West Hollywood content creator, that he started in 2021. That same year it acquired Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine. Candle is backed by investment capital from funds managed by private equity firm Blackstone. Mayer was a former top executive at The Walt Disney Co., overseeing its direct-to-consumer businesses which included global streaming platforms Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu. He led global advertising, content and channel sales, as well as studio distribution and marketing overseas, managing over 25,000 employees around the world and over 60% of Disney revenues. Mayer later served as chief executive of TikTok and chief operating officer of its parent company.
