Gary Kirkpatrick was elected Chair of the Board of Directors at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s annual Board meeting in February 2023. Gary, CEO of G&R Holdings and a veteran of the Food Bank Board, succeeded Whitney Jones Roy, Litigation Partner at Sheppard Mullin, who served as Board Chair for the past three years. The Board also thanked outgoing Board members David Bishop, Jim Beaubien, Linda Hoos and Denise Woods for their Board service. Newly elected Board members include Richard Leuchter, a physician and clinical instructor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; Jason Silvera, a partner at Latham & Watkins; and Matt Toledo, CEO of ProVisors and Publisher Emeritus of the Los Angeles Business Journal.

In recognition of her Board leadership and ten-year tenure serving on the Board, Whitney Jones Roy was honored with the Dennis Winston Memorial Leadership Award at the Food Bank’s annual Season for Sharing luncheon in December. Other honorees recognized for their outstanding service to the community included the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Thomas Safran & Associates, and Cheryl Fair, President and General Manager of KABC-TV.

The Food Bank celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, following three years of responding to record demand for food assistance due to the pandemic and the increase in inflation. The Food Bank has distributed $665 million of nutritious food and other items since the onset of the pandemic, working with its network of more than 600 partner agencies and holding direct distributions to reach an average of 800,000 people monthly during 2022 throughout LA County.

The Food Bank completed its four-year comprehensive campaign in December 2022, raising $177 million to purchase and renovate a 256,000 sq. ft. facility in the City of Industry, and pay for ongoing operating and program expenses to ensure the Food Bank could respond to the record demand for food assistance.
