KATHRYN SCHLOESSMAN

President

Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission

Kathryn Schloessman heads the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission, overseeing its day-to-day operations. LASEC, founded in 1995, partners with the city of Los Angeles to attract sporting and entertainment events such as the NBA All-Star Weekend, NCAA Men’s Regional college basketball and the Super Bowl. Prior to joining the commission, Schloessman was a 13-year veteran of CB Commercial, now CBRE. She was managing officer of CB Commercial’s downtown office, where she was responsible for business development, operations, management and community relations efforts. Schloessman has more than 10 years of experience as lead broker for major lease transactions in the downtown Los Angeles market and serves on the advisory board of the USC Sports Business Institute.

What was your proudest moment?

When the young women I hired moved on to incredible new jobs and responsibilities and become part of our team again. Recent examples have included Karina Herold, who went from LASEC to Pepperdine University and then on to be the tournament director for the NCAA Men’s West Regional Basketball tournament at STaples; and Aubrey Walton, who went from LASEC to the NFL and was our point person on our bid for the 2022 Super Bowl.

What is your alma mater?

University of Southern California

What is your next project?

We have had an incredible run over the last year, winning bids to host the 2020 MLB All-Star Game, the 2022 Super Bowl, the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to name a few. Our next step is building out a Championship Host Committee, to make sure these events have the most successful experience in Los Angeles.

Who is your hero?

My mom, Jerra Lynne Beckhart. She was one of few women executives when I was growing up, first at IBM and then in commercial real estate. She was successful, respected, well liked by her peers and a great mother. She’s also one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

What do you like best about Los Angeles?

So many things. Professionally, I love selling this city. We are selling great weather, the best venues, the culture, the second-largest media market and access to everything you could ever want to do within two hours. With our most recent successful bids, we are now proud to call ourselves the sports & entertainment capital of the world. Personally, there is nothing you can’t do in L.A. Why would you ever want to live anywhere else?
