CFO Awards 2018 Finalists: Brian Gieseler – Non-Profit CFO of the Year

Brian Gieseler stepped into the CFO role at Heluna Health at a pivotal time and quickly made a substantial positive impact on the organization. Before he joined Heluna Health, the accounting, finance and IT team was often working overtime and experiencing significantly high turnover. Gieseler made operational improvements including standardized month end closing processes, improved IT systems,a focus on collections and most importantly, he invested time and energy in training and mentoring his staff and empowering his managers. He worked closely with the CEO and senior leadership to change the work culture and improve customer service. He provided staff with training to develop new skills and gain experience, which then led to improved workflows and efficiency. Collections have now improved by 92%, the bad debt reserve is dramatically reduced, billing and revenue recognition is a streamlined process, excessive overtime has been eliminated, attrition is at normal levels and morale is high. Customer service has improved and accounting, in particular, received their highest ever ranking in customer satisfaction this year.
