The vast expanse of Los Angeles County stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Mojave Desert. It’s easily the nation’s most populous county with more than 10 million residents, greater than all but seven states. The population inched higher last year, the unemployment rate inched lower and assessed property values reached record levels. While the city of Los Angeles is by far the largest municipality, the county has 87 other cities each with their own leaders and unique characteristics. More than 1 million residents also live in unincorporated areas under the jurisdiction of the Board of Supervisors. This special section gives a breakdown of population figures, housing, property values, wage information and other data.
