Hilton Foundation board, which he joined in 1999. At end of this year, son Steven, who serves as chairman and chief executive, will also step down.

BUZZ: William Hilton long retired from roles of chairman and chief executive of hotel business founded by grandfather. Angeleno made name for himself apart from family fortune and legacy. Founded aircraft leasing business Air Finance Corp. in 1956 and Los Angeles Chargers professional football team, which he later moved to San Diego. Also one of key drivers in creation of Super Bowl when he and other American Football League team owners agreed to merge with National Football League in 1966. Hilton Foundation will be the recipient of most of Hilton’s wealth upon passing. Organization donates about $100 million yearly and, as of last year, has given away more than $1 billion.
