Channel Hopes Sports Reality Scores Audience

The latest reality stars on E! Entertainment Television, home of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills,” are the Los Angeles Clippers dancers.

“L.A. Clippers Dance Squad,” a weekly show tipping off March 15, will take viewers behind the high kicks and the hair spray to find out what it takes to be part of the Clippers Spirit.

“We were drawn to the aspirational goals of these talented women and the real stakes, pressure, competition and sisterhood,” said Jeff Olde, E!’s programming chief. “The Clippers is a really exciting brand both as a basketball team and a dance squad.”

The addition of this show to the NBCUniversal-owned channel’s programming lineup represents the latest move toward more sports-related content after the success of “Total Divas” – about female wrestlers – and “WAGS,” about the wives and girlfriends of sports stars.

“Sports are such a huge part of today’s pop culture, so expanding our programming slate with shows that document the exciting world of celebrity athletes who give us unique access behind the velvet rope are a perfect arena, both figuratively and literally, for us to play in,” added Olde.

But instead of Clippers players such as Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, the focus of this eight-part series will be on the dancers who share the same court as them and the dramas of the women’s rehearsals and relationships.

E! is available to 98 million cable and satellite subscribers in the United States, according to Nielsen.
