Electronics-accessory maker Belkin of Playa Vista has opened its first brick-and-motor store at the Los Angeles International Airport, according to a press release. The store features a charging station, as well as Belkin tablet and smartphone accessories for sale, such as chargers and cables, screen protectors.

Virtual Reality Startup Within Picks Up Disney and Zynga Vets

Virtual reality startup Within, which was formerly known as Vrse, has hired former Disney executive Kevin Garrett Monroe as its vice president of legal and business affairs and Michael Cibula, formerly of game developer Zynga, to lead business development and finance, reports Variety. The hires come after the company announced last month a $12.56 million in Series A funding from investors such as 21st Century Fox, Andreessen Horowitz, WME, and Live Nation.

Kin Community Raises $13.5 Million

Women-focused multichannel network Kin Community has raised $13.5 million in a round led by Emil Capital Partners, with participation from Tegna, Canada’s Corus Entertainment, and Australia’s Allure Media, reports Variety. Tegna, which owns or operates 46 TV stations, will work with Santa Monica’s Kin Community to explore potential opportunities for content sharing, sponsored content. and cross-promotion.

Faraday Future Signs Electric Racecar Partnership

Electric-car manufacturer Faraday Future has signed a technical partnership with electric auto-racing team Dragon Racing for the next four Formula E race series, reports Ars Technica. Dragon Racing Team owner and team principal Jay Penske cited the startup’s Gardena-based team of more than 1,000 people and its portfolio of more than 320 patents as the reasons for the partnership.

Hyperloop One Co-Founder Replaced

Hyperloop One co-founder and chief technology officer Brogan BamBrogan has resigned and been replaced by Vice President of Engineering Josh Giegel, who will now receive the title of co-founder, reports the L.A. Business Journal. The downtown company did not explain its reason for the executive shakeup.
