Variety Gets New Managing Editor

Variety announced Wednesday that it has hired veteran journalist Carolyn Horwitz as managing editor. Horwitz previously was executive editor at Entrepreneur magazine, where she had served since 2011. Before that, she had key editorial roles at Billboard, and authored and edited several books on design and architecture.

Horwitz will be based in at the publication’s Los Angeles headquarters, reporting to Co-Editors-In-Chief Claudia Eller and Andrew Wallenstein. She will help oversee newsroom operations and the Variety editorial team of more than 50 staffers in the Penske Media Corp.-owned company’s L.A. and New York offices.
