Petnet’s System Goes Down, Angers Customers

Petnet said its third-party servers suffered an outage on Wednesday evening, temporarily disabling about 10 percent of its internet-connected pet feeders.

The remote-controlled pet feeding system was back up and running in about eight hours, the downtown company wrote in a blog post, but a number of pet owners who rely on the system to feed their animals were upset by the outage.

“Petnet, please solve the issue ASAP,” wrote customer Ling Hong on Twitter. “My cat is home by himself for 2 more days. I am very worried.”

Petnet’s engineers were aware of the problem before the outage, but weren’t able to implement a solution fast enough, the company wrote in its blog. The firm said the issue is now fixed.

“Our platform is stronger and more reliable than ever,” the company wrote. “We have two fail-safes in place, making it virtually impossible for this to happen again and ensuring your pets will always be fed.”
