Passenger traffic into and out of Los Angeles International Airport soared again in September, boosted by another strong month of international travel – and possibly, a favorable exchange rate for American tourists.

More than 1.7 million international passengers moved through the airport last month, a 13.37 percent jump compared to the same year-ago period, according to figures released this week by city airport agency Los Angeles World Airports. The number of domestic travelers grew 6.14 percent to nearly 4.3 million.

Total volume through the airport rose 8.14 percent to more than 6 million passengers.

Through the end of September, 56.2 million people have moved through the airport, a 4.98 percent increase over the same period a year ago.

Overall cargo volume grew 6.2 percent during the month compared to a year ago, with mail cargo up 20.46 percent and freight cargo up 5.65 percent.
