Other businesses/titles: Chairman, TCW Group Inc.

How did you come to own a sports team? (Were you approached? Were you looking?)

I’d always been interested in owning part of a sports team, and am very pleased that I’ve had a chance now to participate in the ownership of two of them. With the Brewers, I was invited by Mark Attanasio to join him and others in purchasing a stake in the team. As for the Bucks, my son knows the principal owners, who invited both my son and me to join in the group.

Is it an investment or more of a hobby?

As both sports fan and a longtime investor in a number of types of assets, I view owning sports teams as both hobby and investment.

Is it a good investment?

I have been an owner of the Brewers for a number of years and it has proven to be a very good investment. My investment in the Bucks only recently began, but based on what teams have sold for since our purchase, it also looks like a good investment.

Other than winning, what’s the best thing about owning part of a sports team?

It certainly gives you extra motivation as a fan.

What’s the worst thing (besides losing)?

I have yet to find a negative to my investments in these teams. They are great franchises in sports that I am very passionate about.

How many games a season do you attend?

I probably attend about 40 basketball games and 20 baseball games in a given season. However, not all of them involve the Brewers or the Bucks.

What was your favorite team when you were growing up?

Growing up, my favorite baseball team was the Philadelphia Phillies. My favorite football team was the Philadelphia Eagles. As for basketball, I was a bit of a free agent because the Philadelphia Warriors moved to San Francisco in 1962 and broke my heart.
