Ride-Sharing Service Relocates to Los Angeles

BeMyDD, an online and phone service that lets customers request designated drivers to take them home, has moved its headquarters to Beverly Hills from Cleveland.

Launched on St. Patrick’s Day in 2010, the company now operates in 76 cities nationwide, according to a statement.

A company spokesman said the company decided to relocate due to its rapidly growing customer base in Los Angeles and Orange County.

Though its primary business involves chauffeuring drivers in their own vehicle who’ve had too much to drink, drivers can also be requested for a variety of other tasks, including medical appointments and shopping excursions. The driver picks up the customer, takes them to the location and waits in the car until they’re ready to go home.

When booked in advance through the company’s website or by phone, rates range from $14 to 19.50 per hour, depending on location, with a three-hour minimum. The cost includes theft protection insurance coverage and a $2 million commercial auto policy.

Customers can also request a pick-up using ByMyDD’s mobile app if they did not book in advance. That service costs $25, plus $3.45 per mile with a $45 minimum. In those instances, the company dispatches two drivers, one to take the client and their car home and a second to follow behind to retrieve the BeMyDD driver.

BeMyDD requires every driver to have at least 10 years of professional driving experience, complete an in-person interview and undergo what it describes as “very comprehensive” background checks.

Specific drivers can be requested and women are able to ask for female chauffeurs.
