Website Aims To Court Attorneys

Looking to carve out a niche in the growing world of online legal services, Suzanne Natbony came up with an idea for a hybrid business that would offer basic legal advice and a venue for lawyers to market their services.

Her LawTake.com site, which launched in April, offers videos in which lawyers advise mock clients as well as answer questions frequently asked during typical legal consultations.

“The best way to market your practice is through teaching something and not just selling something,” she said. “A lot of lawyers don’t want to share their secret sauce, but I encourage them to share a few slices because it would be very useful for the clients.”

What draws attorneys to the website is the potential to market their practice and find new clients, said Natbony, LawTake’s chief executive as well as senior counsel in Los Angeles for Houston’s McCullough Sudan.

The site offers marketing plans ranging from $30 to $150 a month for lawyers to list their contact information, submit banner ads and get higher search result placement in its directory. For $19.99 a month, consumer users, or “LawTakers,” get unlimited access to premium content exclusive to subscribers or pay-per-view customers.

Natbony said she was assisted by lawyers and engineers who have worked on other law-oriented sites, including Glendale’s LegalZoom Inc. and Sausalito’s FreeAdvice.com.
