Manhattan Bancorp, Ducommun Inc. Among Week’s Biggest Gainers

The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of the largest local public companies rose for the week. The weighted LABJ index climbed 1 percent to close at 216, despite losers outpacing gainers 98 to 53. Nine companies closed the week unchanged.

Manhattan Bancorp was one of the week’s leading gainers. Shares rose 36 percent to close at $4.50 on Friday after the El Segundo bank holding company announced its subsidiary, Bank of Manhattan, would be acquired by Irvine lender Plaza Bank.

Aerospace engineering and manufacturing firm Ducommun Inc. also had a good week. Shares of the Carson company rose 8 percent to close at $26.75.

Westwood homebuilder KB Home was among the week’s losing stocks. Shares fell 25 percent to close the week at $12.51 after executives said they expected lower gross margins for the 2015 fiscal year during a recent earnings call.
