FDA Issues Warning Against Medical Device After CRE Outbreak

The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning Thursday for a type of endoscope that is widely used in hospitals and has been linked to an outbreak of the drug-resistant bacterial disease CRE because it is hard to clean, the Wall Street Journal reports. The tubular device may have contributed to the deaths of two patients and the possible infection of as many as 179 others at UCLA Medical Center.
